COLERAIN, NC – Thomas Melvin Jones, age 82, passed away on March 11, 2017 at his residence.
A native of Bertie County, Mr. Jones was born on April 22, 1934 to Jesse Melvin and Gladys Brown Jones in Colerain. Melvin spent his life farming until he retired in 1989. He was a true outdoorsman, being an avid deer hunter and fisherman. Melvin enjoyed traveling with his wife. He was a loving husband and brother. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Louise Wondercheck.
Melvin is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Peggy, one brother, Jesse “Casey” C. Jones of Ahoskie; and two sisters, Joyce Dilbeck and Jean Leggett, both of Colerain; and several nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held on, Tuesday, March 14, 2017, at 11:00 am, at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service – Ahoskie Chapel, Ahoskie, NC, with the Rev. Charles Thompson, officiating. The family will have a private family burial at Highland Memorial Gardens, Ahoskie, NC.

I am so sorry to hear of Melvin’s death. I did not know about it until this morning(Wed). Had I known I would have been there for his funeral.. He was a special person ,always smiling and joking. I know he will be missed in the Mars Hill Community.
I’ll miss Uncle Melvin and his funny stories.
