AULANDER, NC – Thurman Earl Morris, beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away peacefully on January 14, 2024, at the age of 71 at ECU Health Roanoke Chowan Hospital with his family by his side. Born on January 18, 1952, in Hertford County, Thurman dedicated his life to his family and serving his community.
Thurman’s work experience spanned many years in Public Works and Property maintenance, where he tirelessly ensured that his surroundings were well-maintained and beautiful for all to enjoy. He took great pride in his craftsmanship and had a passion for working with his hands, creating beautiful wood crafts that displayed his artistic talents. One of Thurman’s favorite pastimes was traveling with his beloved wife. They cherished their adventures together, exploring new places and creating lasting memories. He also found solace and joy in his church, Windsor Assembly of God, where his faith thrived. Known for his kind and generous spirit, Thurman was always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need, as long as his health permitted. His willingness to assist others made him a cherished friend to many, leaving a lasting impact on those who were fortunate enough to know him. In memory of Thurman Earl Morris, his legacy of love, compassion, and selflessness will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and community.
Thurman is preceded in death by his father, Clyde Lee Morris, his mother, Dessie Matthews Morris White, as well as his brothers, Richard and Alton Morris. He leaves behind a loving and devoted family, including his beloved wife of fifty-three years, Christine; his daughter, Angel Mizelle (Lee) of Askewville; his son, Jason Earl Morris (Allison) of Merry Hill; two granddaughters: Donna Jernigan (Marty) of Elm Grove and Monica White (Scottie) of Edenton; his grandson, Alex Mizelle of Askewville; great-grandchildren: Ally and Olivia Jernigan, Bryson and Indie White; a nephew, Ricky Morris (Jennifer); two nieces: Dawn Pridgen (Billy) and Stephanie Lassiter (Robbie); and a host of extended family and friends.
Services to honor Thurman’s life will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie, NC where family will receive friends. A celebration of life funeral service will take place on Friday, January 19, 2024, at 11:00 am at the Windsor Assembly of God in Windsor, NC, with Rev. Chuck Gray officiating. Following the service, Thurman will be laid to rest in Aulander Cemetery.
