Vergil Irving Northcott, Jr., age 70, died Monday, April 29, 2013, at Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital.
Mr. Northcott was born in Bertie County on March 18, 1943, a son of the late Louise Perry and Virgil Irving Northcott. He was a member of Liberty Free Will Baptist Church for over 20 years. Mr. Northcott was retired as a parts technician having worked 20 years at Advance Auto Parts and 20 years at Central Ford. He was a calm, compassionate, quiet person who enjoyed traveling, but most of all loved his family, especially the grandchildren. Whenever Vergil was feeling down, the grandchildren would always make him smile by sitting on his lap and reading to him.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving, devoted wife of 44 years, Carolyn Joyner Northcott; a son, Marty T. Northcott and wife, Kelly of Aulander, NC; a sister, Dale Knowles and husband, Blount of Windsor, NC; and grandchildren, Ethan T. Northcott and Taylor A. Northcott. Besides his parents, Vergil was preceded in death by a brother, Don Northcott.
A celebration of life service will be conducted on Thursday, May 2, 2013, at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service in Ahoskie with the Rev. Paul Ange officiating. Burial will follow in the Roxobel-Kelford Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations may be made to Liberty Free Will Baptist Church.
