WOODLAND, NC – Virgie Virginia Vaughan Joyner, age 90, passed away on October 18, 2018 at the Roanoke Chowan Hospital of Ahoskie, NC.

Mrs. Joyner was born in Bertie County, on November 29, 1927, a daughter of the late Grover Cleveland and Sadie Harrell Vaughan. Virgie was a homemaker and loved to cook. Any time anyone came to her house, her first question was “have you eaten”, and most did not get away without her feeding them. She loved children, and for many years, ran a daycare from her home for dozens of children. Virgie was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Besides her parents, Virgie was preceded in death by her husband, Linwood Bryant Joyner, and all her siblings.

Left to cherish her memory are two daughters, Linda Joyner Whitley of Henderson, Nevada, and Carolyn Joyner Clopton of Roanoke Rapids, NC; two sons, Linwood Earl Joyner of Woodland, NC, and Bob Joyner and wife, Nancy of Aulander, NC; four granddaughters, Beth Pittman and husband, Kenny and Becky Patrick and husband, Jason of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Kimberly Joyner of Charleston, SC, and Crystal Joyner of Pendleton, NC; and four great grandchildren, Olivia, Jackson, Brandon, and Noah.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 21, 2018, from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm at Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Rich Square, NC.

A celebration of life graveside service will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 2:00 pm at the Cedar Lawn Cemetery, Rich Square, NC, with Rev. Tony Futrell, officiating.
