MURFREESBORO, NC – Waylon James Prevatte, age 3, of Jay Trail, a precious little boy, went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, October 26, 2021. Even at his young age, Waylon touched many lives with his tender heart and huge smile. Waylon was born on September 13, 2018 to Robert John Prevatte, Jr. and Lindsey Marie Smith Prevatte in Suffolk, NC. He was always happy and had an infectious smile that always had him chuckling with laughter. Waylon loved swimming, Sonic, and most of all Super Heros with his favorite being Spiderman. Even though this is a great loss of a precious life, someone will live on because Waylon’s family chose for him to be an organ donor. He was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all.
Waylon was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Edward Mooring, his paternal grandfather, Robert John Prevatte, Sr., paternal great grandfather, his Robert Earl Prevatte, Sr., and his paternal great grandmother, Kathleen Powell.
Left to cherish Waylon’s memory is his parents, Robert and Liz, his maternal grandmother, Donna Mooring; maternal grandfather, John Smith and wife April of Boone, NC; paternal grandmother, Wendy Carbaugh of Chesapeake, VA; maternal great grandmother, Faye Smith of Conway, NC; great grandmother, Sharon Prevatte of Burlington, NC; great grandfather, Johnny L. Powell, Sr. and wife Carolyn of Portsmouth, VA; two sisters, Ryder L. Prevatte, and Madalynn Rose Graham; uncle, John Smith Jr. and wife Sarah of Sedley, VA; five aunts, Alyssa Smith of Winton, NC, Alexis Carbaugh of Chesapeake, VA, Karen Goff and husband Ryan of Richmond, VA, Brandi Curtin of New Kent, VA, and Kalee Prevatte of Burlington, NC; six great uncles, Larry Smith, Sr. of Conway, NC, Kevin Prevatte of Burlington, NC, Johnny Powell Jr. and wife Dawn of Gates County, NC, Johnny Smith Jr. and wife Susan of Conway, NC, Eddie Smith and wife Teresa of Sunbury, NC, and Johnathan Smith and wife Amy of Margarettsville, NC; three great aunts, Cassie James and husband Colton of Newsomes, VA, Christine Kirk of Winton, NC, and aunt Fluffy of Winton, NC; and many great great aunts, great great uncles, and cousins.
A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at 2:00 pm at the Garrett-Sykes Funeral Service, Ahoskie, NC, with Rev. John Porter officiating. The family will receive friends at 25482 Mary Hunt Road, Newsome, VA 23874 and immediately following the service.

They’re No words to say that come even remotely close to easing the Pain, Hurt & utter Loss that your hearts have got to be feeling.. so, just Please know Liz & Robbie, that Im Praying for y’all & your family. I never met your sweet boy in person, but I did watch his bday videos & pictures b/c Luke was there and playing.. & the Cuteness Overload! Cousins❤️ Liz, Waylon had a glow about him in those pictures..he looked just so sweet.. & even though I’d never met your little man, I cannot get his precense out of my head since looking at his birthday party.. so I cannot begin to imagine what the two of you are going through at this time and will continue to for quite a while… so I will continue to keep you in my Prayers, & if there is anything else I can do don’t hesitate to let me know. Heaven MUST have needed a VERY Special Angel that morning… I’m just so sorry for y’all’s loss..
