BEAUFORT, NC – Wayne Meredith Jenkins, 77, formerly of Robersonville, NC, passed away on Saturday, April 24, 2021 at the Crystal Coast Hospice of Newport, NC

Mr. Jenkins was born on July 31, 1943 to the late Alton Meredith Jenkins and Adelaide Bazemore Jenkins in Aulander, Bertie County, North Carolina. Having developed a love of the outdoors at an early age, Wayne had wonderful times at White Lake, boating and fishing at White’s Beach, hunting, and traveling through the mountain roads. He enjoyed nothing better than traipsing through the fields and forests of his family farm. Wayne graduated from Aulander High School and later Atlantic Christian College becoming a social worker in Bertie County. Always smiling, he never met a stranger and the impact on those he knew, served through his work or his church was significant. He was a skilled mechanic and carpenter who changed his own oil and constructed wheelchair ramps for the needy. A snappy dresser like his mother, it was in a coat and tie that he met his wife Norma at a dance in 1982. They were a pair for 39 wonderful years. He also loved his large extended family and looked forward to Christmas parties and other gatherings. Wayne was devoted to his church becoming a deacon and choir member. He will be remembered as a loving father, husband, brother, and grandfather.

Wayne is survived by his loving wife Norma, two sons, Kevin Jenkins and wife Holly of Franklin, TN, and Shannon Jenkins and wife Whitney of Beaufort, NC; daughter, Michelle Brugger and husband Doug of Newport, NC; granddaughter, Holly Milligan of Newport; four grandsons, Nathan and Noah Jenkins of Franklin, TN, Eli Jenkins of Beaufort, and Kyle Brugger of Newport; sister, Eulalia Turlington and husband Joe of Coats, NC; niece, Meredith Pait; and nephew, Lee Turlington.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 27, 2021, from 1:00 pm until 1:45 pm at Garrett-Sykes Memorial Chapel, Aulander with a celebration of life graveside service to follow at 2 pm and the Aulander Cemetery with Rev. Randall Woodard officiating. The family requests with the pandemic continuing, that everyone wear face coverings and maintain social distancing.

To the Jenkins family,
I am sorry for your loss. I previously worked with him at Bertie DSS and he always talked about his Norma. Prayers for you all during this difficult time.

Norma, Kevin, Shannon, Michelle and the grandchildren,
We send our deepest sympathy. Wayne was like a brother to us. We always enjoyed our visits until medical issues limited them. It still good to talk on the phone and remember years past. May he rest in peace. Blessing Darden & Jackie.
