William Elijah “Deacon” Bell, age 95, of Hobgood, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2019 at Vidant Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro.
He was born in Edgecombe County, NC on August 15, 1924 to the late George and Bessie Bell. Deacon was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving a tour in France during World War II. Deacon worked at Long Manufacturing in Tarboro for many years and enjoyed doing carpentry work in his spare time. A long-time member of Hobgood Pentecostal Holiness Church, he loved his church and his church family dearly. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
In addition to his parents Deacon was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Edna Earl Braddy Bell; his sisters, Margaret Davis, Mary Grant, Sallie Brady, and Snora Neal Coker; and his brother, Alec Bell.
He is survived by his son, Dennis Bell and wife Kathy of Tarboro; his nephew/son, Al Brady of Hobgood; his sister, Annie Bell of Scotland Neck; his grandchildren, Amanda Bell of Traphill, NC and Bridgette Collier and husband Jeff of Hobgood; four great-grandchildren, Justin Bell and wife Holly, Cierra Joyner, Thomas Collier, and Alex Collier; and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at Letchworth-Sykes Funeral Service in Scotland Neck.
A celebration of life funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 16, 2019 at Hobgood Pentecostal Holiness Church, with Rev. Dwight Jones presiding. Interment will follow at Hobgood Cemetery.
