Bill and his family moved next door to my family in 1955. Billy was just a teenager, enlisted in the Navy and took care of his family. He was such a mature young man. Billy really did put his life on hold and took care of his family both parents and siblings. When Billy was not deployed or standing duty section he would often sit on the front porch or play horseshoes. Billy enjoyed working with leather and Daddy bought a purse from him for my Mother’s Christmas present. Although I don’t think the purse was my Mother’s style, she used that purse for many years honoring Daddy’s gift and Billy’s craftsmanship. Daddy always respected Billy for his maturity in caring for his family. I never heard him complain of his lot in life. Billy was a good man and we could all learn from him.
