COLERAIN – Willie Arvis Sumner, age 80, passed away Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at Vidant Roanoke Chowan Hospital. He was born in Norfolk, Virginia on June 25, 1932 to the late Harry Sumner and Lillie Johnson Sumner.
Mr. Sumner retired from the Navy after 20 years of service and he was a member of the Naval Fleet Reserve. He was an active member of the men‚??s ministry at Higher Ground Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 58 years, Nora Miller Sumner; a daughter, Lisa Snyder and husband Donald of Williamston; a grandson, Clay Snyder of Williamston, and two great grandchildren, Ashley and Matthew of Williamston.
A celebration of life service will be held Sunday, July 1 at 2:00 PM at Higher Ground Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Ray Faircloth and Rev. Jim Cox officiating. Burial will follow in the Miller Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the church fellowship hall.
