Woodrow W. Conner Jr., age 65 of Goldsboro went home to be with the Lord on Friday morning, October 24th, 2008. A native of Kelford, N.C., he was the son of the late Woodrow W. Conner Sr. and the late Gracie Mae Conner. He was known as “Smokie Joe” by those who grew up with him. Before his illness, Woody worked as a produce manager for Food Lion in Murfreesboro, N.C.

Woody suffered complications from a stroke that occurred in April of 2000. He was lovingly cared for by his former wife, Sandra Conner for the last eight years, and was deeply and profoundly loved and cherished by his family.

To cherish wonderful memories, Woody leaves behind his best friend Sandra, two sons Thomas D. Conner and wife Veronica of Harvest, Alabama and Woodrow W. Conner III (Joe) of Goldsboro and a daughter, Rhonda Conner Harris and husband Floydie of Goldsboro.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren: Nathan, Jayden, Jordan, Joey, Carson, Troy, Landon, and Floydie Jr.; his brother, Thurman Conner (Buck) of Kelford, N.C. and a sister, Mae Harrell of Portsmouth, Va.; a very special friend, Joe Womack; and a host of family, friends, and former co-workers. He was preceded in death by his sister, Peggy Dickens.

The family wishes to thank Advantage Hospice Care of Selma, N.C. and his nurses and care coordinators, Terry, Marsha, and Teresa for their tremendous care of Woody in these final months of his life, and also our thanks to Rev. Sam Harvin for his many visits, and to the friends, family and church members who prayed for and visited Woody and his family during his illness.
